How District elections work
Pursuant to Water Code §35100 et seq., District elections are conducted in conformity with the Uniform District Election Law (Part 4, commencing with Section 10500, of Division 10 of the Elections Code) and any provisions of law generally applicable to districts organized under this division for the election of Directors. The term of office of each director elected at a general district election is four years, or until a successor qualifies.
Calendar of significant dates
The milestones below illustrate a typical general district election cycle, expressed as the number of days before Election Day (shown as “E-minus-days”). Exact calendar dates vary by election year; contact the Alpine County Elections Office or the District to confirm the dates for a specific upcoming election.
- E-125: Delivery of Notice of Elective Offices to be Filled and Boundary Maps. The district secretary delivers to the county elections official notice specifying offices to be filled (EC 10509), plus boundary maps (EC 10522).
- E-120 to E-90: Publication of Notice of Election (EC 12112). The Attorney General of California has given an opinion that Alpine County may post rather than publish, since there is no newspaper of general circulation in the County.
