Dam safety & SB 92
On June 27, 2017, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 92 into law, establishing new requirements focused on dam safety. SB 92 requires dam owners to prepare inundation maps and emergency action plans (EAPs) to improve dam safety. In the event of a dam failure, inundation maps must show the areas that would flood, travel times and flood peaks, as well as critical locations that may be impacted if a dam fails.
EAPs must identify potential emergency conditions and outline actions to minimize loss of life and property damage, including procedures for notifying downstream emergency-management authorities, with inundation maps showing evacuation areas.
District approval
BVWD's Emergency Action Plan was approved by the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) on August 15, 2024.
